In 2001 two sisters from Leicester, Rama and Sujata Bhalla set up Giving World Online’s parent charity, Konnect9.
Konnect9 was born when pallets of paper from a former print works were about to be landfilled. Rama and Sujata decided to redistribute the paper to local community groups. Over the following 7 years Konnect9 redistributed almost £1.5 million worth of goods, in the UK and overseas, saving 200 tons of goods being sent to landfill.
However the charity was limited by warehouse space and the volume of collections and deliveries that could be made. Yet demand was increasing.
The solution came in the form of Giving World Online. The site is built upon feedback from businesses and charities.
By moving away from the warehouse operation to an online platform Giving World Online has trebled our reach.
