Visitors and Films

No sooner do I promise to be regular with updates than the promise flies out of the window at break neck speed. The reason being that we have the pleasure of hosting visitors from a couple of overseas organizations.

However, amidst our hosting responsibilities we did manage to fit in a day of filming for the Leicestershire First Leadership Award video. An interesting but nerve racking day as neither Sujata or myself are media wise and have never been comfortable in front of the camera. Fingers crossed it comes across well.

Thanks very much to Serina of the New Parks Boxing Gym and Grant Lush and Gill Rees of Opus Marketing for participating in the video.

The New Parks Boxing Gym has accessed toys from Giving World Online which have been used as prizes for the children. The prizes encourage children from age 5 upwards to attend the sessions, gaining many skills in the process ie confidence building and self-defence not to mention being physically active as opposed to being out on the streets or glued to computer games.

The Gym has also been supported with paper from Opus Marketing.Opus Trust Marketing, known as OTM, is a transactional mailing company based in Leicester.  One of the main activities at OTM is printing and mailing bills and statements for some of the UK’s biggest utility companies.  The company found themselves with a pallet of plain A4 perforated paper, which no longer complied with the bank specification for payment slips.

Although OTM recycle 98% of their waste they could see that this paper might be of use to schools or charities and their Environmental Manager, Gill Rees, was given the challenge.  The paper gathered dust in the warehouse until an article appeared in the Leicester Mercury featuring Giving World Online.  Gill could see that registering on Giving World’s website would instantly reach a whole range of organisations who might be interested in the company’s excess materials.

OTM were particularly pleased to help provide resources to really local people, such as the New Parks Boxing Gym.  The paper has been put to good use by the children as well as the organisers when writing to parents with a ready-made tear-off response slip.
