news > 26/09/2012 - Apple Macs donation by Carlton Books draws new lease of life

Caspari Foundation

Two important family support charities have given a new lease of life to a valuable range of Apple Macs from a major UK book publisher.

The Carlton Publishing Group are a leading independent publisher of illustrated reference, sport, music, lifestyle, art & design, history, military history, puzzles & entertainment and children's books, publishing across six imprints: Carlton, Goodman, Goodman Fiell, Andre Deutsch, Prion and Carlton Kids.

Having recently upgraded some of their used IT, Carlton were keen to ensure that it would be given a new lease of life. Carlton has a natural affiliation to children and family learning due to their excellent range of books for the younger reader, and Giving World Online immediately had two approaches from ideal charities.

The Caspari Foundation in North London provides educational psychotherapy for children and young people. Sometimes, through no fault of their own, children and young people can find their emotions get in the way of developing and learning. The Caspari Foundation helps them,  their families and schools to learn to cope with and overcome these barriers.

Kevin Kibble, CEO of Caspari says: "The children will use the Apples to produce 'storybooks' of artwork. It will help them to keep a record of their journey through educational psychotherapy. It’s a powerful tool and we’re very grateful to Carlton for their support."

Learn for Life Enterprise is a community hub based in one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse areas of Sheffield. The charity offers IT training and ESOL classes as well as stability and advice in a safe and welcoming environment. They promote integration, helping local families, children and older people from different communities learn and work together.

A spokesperson for Carlton said "We needed to make room for new IT equipment for the development of new titles. Our used Apples and PC's were still serviceable but we wanted them to be put to good use. The Caspari Foundation and Learn for Life are small local charities with a huge capacity to change lives and we are pleased to help them out with our donation."
