A donation of 88,000 face masks by Coventry based Peugeot Citroën Automobiles UK Ltd have been received by a number of charities including Take Hope Yorkshire, Beaumont Lodge Community Centre and Feed the Hungry UK.

In an unusual donation to Giving World Online, Peugeot Citroën Automobiles UK Ltd have donated two pallets of surgical face masks to various charities. The face masks were bought and put into storage at the height of the flu epidemic as a safeguarding exercise for their employees.

A spokesperson for the Peugeot Citroën Automobiles UK Ltd said "We really needed the space being occupied by the masks and with their useable end date on the horizon, we decided to donate them to charities in order that they can be put to good use right away. We approached a number of organisations who were unable to take them, then we found Giving World Online.  Within a few days they were gone and being used by many charities in the UK and abroad to treat the sick."

Feed the Hungry was one of the charities that benefitted from the donation. Gwyn Williams said "These masks were an invaluable donation.  Often we are called to the remotest parts of the world to provide emergency famine relief and to provide food parcels for those in war torn areas. We draw comfort from the fact that our volunteers overseas are able to use quality health and safety supplies to enable them to do their work safely."

The Peugeot Citroën Automobiles UK Ltd spokesman went on to say. "Our donation was handled very professionally by the team at Giving World Online. With their online audit trail we were able to see at a glance where our donation was distributed to. They managed to do what other charities we approached were unable to - we would like to say thank you for distributing so efficiently our unwanted items."
