news > 13/05/2013 - Celebrating Volunteers - Martin

Martin

"I started volunteering as something to do. I was going to Adult Education but I wanted a change and to do some charitable work. I had a choice of where to go but I chose to go here as it sounded like the best one. I wanted something that was relaxed with not too much responsibility but I still wanted to help."

Martin had not done any other volunteer work before but he thoroughly enjoyed the time he gave. As well as making an important contribution to the work of the charity he also feels that he personally gained from his efforts.

"I struggle with early starts, but this gave me something to get up for, it helped with time keeping and gave me some responsibility but without too much pressure. Everyone here is nice. It has improved my confidence because I had to interact with strangers but I ended up making some friends."
